The Long Tail teaches that there’s now a niche for everyone, but finding your niche is most often harder than not. UK based magazine subscription service, Stack, has just the answer. I want to get to a point one day where everything I own is bespoke. I recently found a tailor that literally works magic within his tiny storefront in Manhattan, I mean it boggles the mind what he can do with needle and thread. New suit, no problem! Ruby extends customization to the world of helmets – my Denver peeps know about the scooter boom – be safe and look good doing it. So cool, you can create your own look by combining colors, graphics, lacquiered, metallic or glittered paint, rubber or calfskin trim…the list goes on. I’d like zebra print with sheepskin interior please…add glitter.
Going bead shopping is like going into a candy store – I want one of everything! Possibilities are endless, and it’s so gratifying to hear the ol’ “where’d you get that necklace?” Oh, this old thing? I MADE it.
I find a new Etsy lust probably every day, and this is no exception. Peruse Sunyno’s bead collection, or if you’d rather, peep her ready-made wares. I want one of everything.
There’s always an excuse to accessorize, and why should transporting your media be any different? Found Mimobot while surfing for holiday gifts, and as far as USBs go, they’re the cutest I’ve seen. So cute in fact, that you can even buy yours a sweatshirt. Good stocking stuffer for that millennial on your list.
The photography of Alejandra Laviada conjurs a sense of melencholy with it’s intense color and graphic composition. Her latest series of photosculpture features several abandoned objects, and makes you appreciate the design of the subject, as much as their dilapidated setting. The above is taken from her Typeologies series. Thanks to Cool Hunting for putting me on.
I had a Care Bears breakfast-in-bed tray that I have very fond Mister Rogers memories about. Plus, I’ve always thought trays were underrated and should’ve put a few on the ol’ wedding registry when I had the chance. London-based Dotty Dot has a host of quirky trays that include the Day Dreamer, Black Forest, Doll Face, and the classic Breakfast in Bed.
This is an oldie, but goodie. Cog & Pearl has been a staple in Park Slope Brooklyn for years now, but it’s worth noting that they continuously provide shoppers with the best in hand and locally made wares, and as aesthetics go, their store ensures one of the most plesant shopping experiences on the 5th ave strip. Really, I keep going back.
Two words: unbearably cute. The creator of these cuter-than-thou fabric toadstool & mushroom houses is not only talented and wicked with felt and needle, but has posted the how-to so you can have these in your life. Impress your frog friends with their life-like detail. Embroidery skills are a plus.
I know you were thinking it: the difference between toadstools and mushrooms
I’m particularly partial to anything with a Mariachi on it (if you can find a good cheap one in NYC, please let me know, I’ll be 30 in a few years and I’m planning a party). Vosges Chocolates offers their Red-Fire Toffee here, one in a slew of delictable products with a twist + they manufacture, package, and ship green. Also love the packaging and flavors of their Mini Exotic Candy Bars.
Dear Vosges: Please send me a box of your Red-Fire Chocolage Covered Tortilla Chips.
