Nomenus Quarterly

Highlighting new & established talent within the worlds of fine art and fashion, Nomenus Quarterly is released online and in limited print four times a year. Contributors often are those who crave a more intimate setting by which to display their works which have either never before been published or were created specifically for the journal.

Erie Basin

Nothing beats a trip down to Red Hook Brooklyn on an almost-spring type of day. After brunching at Hope & Anchor, Key Lime Pie-ing it at Steve’s Authentic and grabbing a brew at Ice House, I came across Erie Basin, the best curiosities shop that side of the BQE. Great antique and unique jewelry, furniture and folk art, the highly curated collection lives up to the name and deserves a trip back. A gem within a gem of a neighborhood.

Stairway To Stardom

Before American Idol, and while Tyra Banks was still in diapers, there was a little show that could called Stairway to Stardom featuring the best amateur talent NYC public access television could find. There are so many gems in this collection, it’s hard to know where to start. From the sweet to the emotional, the inspiring, awkward, and all-around classic…Stairway remains permanently bookmarked, and forever in my heart. NPR Alert: it was even featured in an ‘06 piece

The Impossible Project

A state of collective mourning began when Poloroid announced they would cease to produce the beloved medium. The Impossible Project has reclaimed Poloroid Film, and vows make it a viable, living medium once more. In their words: “Impossible b.v. has been founded with the concrete aim to re-invent and re-start production of analog INTEGRAL FILM for vintage Polaroid cameras. Therefore Impossible b.v. has acquired the complete film production equipment in Enschede (NL) from Polaroid, has signed a 10-year lease agreement on the factory building; and has engaged the most experienced team of Integral Film experts worldwide.” Photos via Polanoid.

Bullbone Vintage Photos

Scouring Etsy has become a hobby. Amidst the jewlery and funky stuffies, Bullbone has cherry picked the best vintage photos and will snail mail them to you for only $5. I still like combing through the piles of pics at the flea market, but Bullbone helps get that fix when you can’t get to the flea.

Sweet & Savory

Although it would probably not be recommended, I could live off of a diet of cheese & chocolate.  Saxelby Cheesemonger’s Sweet-and-Savory Heart Selection pairs three of their favorite domestic cheeses with Roni-Sue’s inventive chocolate truffles. Perfect-o for Valentine’s Day. Yes, please.

wejetset

The lust for travel is a universal yearning – but I think it’s particularly magnified for the New Yorker, stuck right in the middle of the most traveled-to city, but hardly able to break away from the grind that is New York living. The smart people over at wejetset feel the same way – but they actually get on the plane. Travel eye-candy and the accessories to do it in style. Check out their new City Notes feature too.
